I wish I had thought to share my thoughts when I lost Steve.....it has a healing affect and more importantly it keeps the importance of his life with me.
Steve never lost his love of riding his motorcycle, right up till his last week in this world he rode. His friend Rick came to ride with him often, especially as he grew sicker. Rick was THE friend that never left, even now. He is a great guy and I will love him for his kindness always.
Here are the "boys" going for what would be "The Last Ride". Rick is on the far right, next to Steve.
Does Rick know how important he was in Steve's life? I hope so. There is a song by The Pretenders called "The Last Ride". I think of Rick whenever I hear this song.
Hey friend
My pal
My brother
We take shelter in each other
I'll keep it simple
You keep it true
I owe my last ride to you...."
Rick planned a motorcycle road trip with Steve, complete with maps, stops, destinations, etc. They planned to ride to visit Michael and Nancy in S.C. Rick and I knew the ride could not happen but he planned it as if they would go. Did Steve know they wouldn't go?? I hope not, we need something to anchor us in this world as it slowly pulls from our grasp......
Rick never made a big deal of his visits....just a couple of buddies hanging out. Rick still keeps tabs on me and the kids.
Hey buddy, hey friend ....... thank you.
Make your day count....day 3 of 365.
Kathi
